Warning - The modifications we discuss here are not for the inexperienced DIY'er. Fabrication of metal, creative drilling and sourcing special parts is required. This guide is written for the "fold-flat" passenger seat. The standard seat may be quite different. Use these instructions only as a general guide.
As you know, the OEM armrest does not accommodate the passenger. I have always felt that Chrysler missed something during the design process when they omitted the passenger side armrest. They have them in the Town & Country as well as the Caravans, so why not the PT? Fortunately, JJ Products designed an alternative high quality after market armrest, which many PT owners have purchased as a suitable substitute for Chryslers design oversight.
One PT owner, Bill Shailer, planted the original seed for adapting an OEM armrest for use on the passenger side seat and started to experiment with this modification. While at the same time, it occurred to Mike that the European export PT's have right hand drive with an armrest for the left arm. After some research he was able to track the Euro part numbers down through service manuals and microfiche. However, several dealers said that export parts could not be ordered. In the end, it took pleading, begging and two dozen doughnuts to get the parts ordered.

Both of the installation guides discussed here utilize the same Euro armrest. The new armrest is perfect in shape and color and can't be distinguished from the driver side factory original. Once installed, access to the hand brake and automatic shift lever with the seatback folded forward is not an issue. (The manual shifter should be accessible as well.) The difference within each guide is in how and where the new armrest is attached to the seat.
If you are unable to locate these parts through your local DC dealer we have made arrangements with Wyckoff Chrysler to offer them online. Since both installation guides utilize the same three DC components, Wyckoff will offer all three parts in one Kit. The kit will be available at a discount through our PT DIY Club Wyckoff Chrysler offering, and listed on their site within the next few (Monday or Tuesday) days in the PT Cruiser "OEM Interior Accessories" section.
